About This Product

The Bortoletti sealing wax heater is a cube-shaped alcohol burner designed to melt sealing wax cleanly and evenly for crisp, elegant wax seals. Handmade in Italy with hand-finished bronze detailing and selected by Calligraphy Arts UK, this refined desk accessory combines practical function with traditional craftsmanship for wax seal enthusiasts and lovers of fine stationery.

Bortoletti sealing wax heater

The Bortoletti square sealing wax heater is a finely crafted alcohol burner designed to melt sealing wax with control and consistency. Created through the collaboration of artisans and master jewellers, this elegant cube-shaped heater combines practical function with decorative Italian craftsmanship, making it a distinctive accessory for wax seal work and heritage-inspired desk use.

Designed for melting sealing wax

This square alcohol burner is designed to provide a steady heat source for melting sealing wax, either directly or when used with a melting spoon. Its stable flame helps the wax flow smoothly, making it easier to create neat, well-formed seals for invitations, packaging, letters, and decorative projects.

Hand-finished bronze craftsmanship

The frieze and cap are made from cast bronze and are carefully worked and hand-chiselled by skilled Bortoletti craftsmen. These decorative details give the heater elegance and character, transforming a useful sealing tool into a refined desk accessory with traditional Italian style.

Helps preserve sealing wax colour

Bortoletti recommends using at least 90% pure alcohol to produce a stable, odourless flame. This helps melt sealing wax efficiently without altering its colour, which is especially useful when working with delicate shades such as white sealing wax or lighter pearl tones.

Ideal for wax seal projects

This sealing wax heater is ideal for anyone creating wax seals for wedding invitations, gift wrapping, wine bottles, certificates, stationery, and decorative paper crafts. Its compact cube design makes it both practical to use and attractive on the desk or craft table.

A traditional accessory for wax seal work

Sealing wax has long been used to secure important documents, decorate correspondence, and add a ceremonial finish to special items. Today it remains popular for creative stationery, gift presentation, and event styling. A dedicated wax heater helps make the process cleaner, easier, and more consistent.

A thoughtful gift for stationery and wax seal enthusiasts

Bortoletti sealing wax accessories make elegant gifts for stationery lovers, calligraphers, crafters, and anyone who enjoys traditional decorative tools. Combining Italian craftsmanship with practical usefulness, this square alcohol burner is a distinctive addition to any wax seal collection.

What oil is needed for your wax heaters?

    Hi Trina,

Thank you for asking. Bortoletti recommends using 90% pure alcohol or denatured alcohol (Methylated spirits) for a stable, odourless flame that does not burn or discolour the wax.

The two best, least expensive fuels for the alcohol lamps are denatured ethanol (ethyl alcohol; grain alcohol), and methanol (methyl alcohol; wood alcohol; methylated spirit); both can be cheaply obtained at hardware stores or home-improvement centers.

What is the alternative to denatured alcohol for alcohol lamp?

Try using >99% isopropyl alcohol. It's the closest in structure and physical properties. Denatured alcohol is mostly ethanol with methanol mixed in so it can be sold for non-food use.

Please note that Calligraphy Arts does not sell this as it requires specialist posting, but it is freely available at many hardware and cosmetic accessory stores.

    I hope that helps,
    Jane

How do you seal a silver lid on a jar with sealing wax?

    Hello Irene,

Thanks for asking. To seal a lid on a jar, you need to heat the end of the sealing wax with something like a kitchen lighter and carefully drip the melted wax over the area you want to seal. Then, while the wax is still warm, you can press your stamp.

Here is a video showing one method I found on YouTube:
