Bortoletti wax seal symbols – Venice stamps

The Bortoletti Venice collection includes interchangeable 22 mm bronze wax seal stamps inspired by some of the most recognisable symbols of Venice. Designed for use with compatible Bortoletti wax seal handles, these stamps allow you to create distinctive and meaningful impressions for letters, invitations, cards, gift wrapping, and decorative stationery projects.

Interchangeable 22 mm bronze wax seal stamps

Each design is made as an interchangeable 22 mm bronze wax seal stamp that fits Bortoletti wax seal handles with a simple screw fitting. This makes it easy to change from one design to another without needing a separate handle for every stamp, giving you greater flexibility across different projects and occasions.

The Venice symbols in this range

This range includes eight Venetian-inspired symbols:

  • Griffin
  • Lion of St Mark
  • Moeca lion
  • Gondola
  • Murano rooster
  • St Mark’s Basilica
  • Doge’s hat
  • Plague doctor

These designs celebrate the history, architecture, folklore, and artistic heritage of Venice, making them an especially distinctive choice for personalised wax seal projects.

Ideal for gifts, letters, and creative stationery

Bortoletti Venice wax seal stamps are ideal for sealing letters, decorating greeting cards, finishing gift packages, and adding a unique touch to invitations or handmade paper projects. They are also well suited to journalling, scrapbooking, and keepsake stationery where symbolic designs can add extra meaning and visual interest.

Part of the wider Bortoletti seal collection

This Venice range forms part of the wider Bortoletti collection of interchangeable wax seal stamps, which also includes Roman initials, Gothic initials, English cursive initials, Chinese zodiac symbols, and other decorative stamp designs. Double cursive initials can also be specially ordered, making it possible to build a highly personalised wax seal collection around your preferred Bortoletti handle.

Enhance your wax seal impressions

For an even more decorative finish, the raised details of your wax seal can be highlighted using Bortoletti wax cream, available in pots of gold or silver. This is a simple way to bring out initials, symbols, and engraved details, adding extra contrast and a more luxurious finish to your completed seal.

Handmade Bortoletti craftsmanship

Like all Bortoletti creations, these bronze wax seal stamps are made with close attention to detail and traditional craftsmanship. Their 22 mm size offers a practical and versatile impression for a wide range of sealing wax projects, while the solid bronze construction gives them a classic appearance and satisfying weight.

What oil is needed for your wax heaters?

    Hi Trina,

Thank you for asking. Bortoletti recommends using 90% pure alcohol or denatured alcohol (Methylated spirits) for a stable, odourless flame that does not burn or discolour the wax.

The two best, least expensive fuels for the alcohol lamps are denatured ethanol (ethyl alcohol; grain alcohol), and methanol (methyl alcohol; wood alcohol; methylated spirit); both can be cheaply obtained at hardware stores or home-improvement centers.

What is the alternative to denatured alcohol for alcohol lamp?

Try using >99% isopropyl alcohol. It's the closest in structure and physical properties. Denatured alcohol is mostly ethanol with methanol mixed in so it can be sold for non-food use.

Please note that Calligraphy Arts does not sell this as it requires specialist posting, but it is freely available at many hardware and cosmetic accessory stores.

    I hope that helps,
    Jane

How do you seal a silver lid on a jar with sealing wax?

    Hello Irene,

Thanks for asking. To seal a lid on a jar, you need to heat the end of the sealing wax with something like a kitchen lighter and carefully drip the melted wax over the area you want to seal. Then, while the wax is still warm, you can press your stamp.

Here is a video showing one method I found on YouTube:
