Bortoletti wooden pen and wax seal set – Todaro
The Bortoletti Todaro wooden pen and wax seal set is a beautifully balanced writing and sealing collection handmade in Italy with the refined craftsmanship for which Bortoletti is known. Designed for customers who appreciate natural materials, elegant stationery, and heritage-inspired desk accessories, this coordinated set brings together calligraphy and wax sealing in one timeless presentation.
A complete writing and sealing set
This elegant Bortoletti set includes a wooden calligraphy pen, a horizontal pen holder in nickel-silver plated bronze, a wooden wax seal handle, an interchangeable 22 mm seal plate, one 13 cm sealing wax stick, an elegant gift box, and a certificate of guarantee. It offers a practical and attractive way to combine handwritten correspondence with traditional wax sealing in one refined collection.
Natural wood with refined bronze detailing
The Todaro set is crafted from natural wood, giving both the pen and wax seal handle a warm, classic character. This is complemented by a bronze pen holder finished with an elegant nickel-silver plating, creating a balanced contrast between natural texture and decorative metalwork. The result is a desk set that feels understated, elegant, and easy to live with.
Interchangeable wax seal plate
The wooden wax seal handle is compatible with a variety of interchangeable designs, allowing you to personalise the set to suit your style or occasion. Available options include italic lettering, double initials, Gothic lettering, and decorative symbols. This versatility makes the Todaro set especially suitable for wedding invitations, monogrammed stationery, gift presentation, and elegant personal correspondence.
Designed for writing and sealing rituals
The Todaro set is ideal for customers who enjoy the slower, more thoughtful ritual of traditional writing. The wooden calligraphy pen adds character to handwritten letters, invitations, and keepsake documents, while the matching wax seal creates a crisp finishing detail that completes the presentation. Used together, they transform everyday writing into a more meaningful and memorable experience.
Sealing wax and practical use
The included 13 cm sealing wax stick creates approximately 20 wax seals, depending on the size and depth of each impression. To create a clean and detailed seal, melt the wax using an alcohol lamp, spirit burner, or carefully with a kitchen lighter, then allow around 20 seconds after stamping before lifting the seal. Good quality sealing wax should melt smoothly, flow evenly, and remain workable long enough to capture the engraved detail clearly.
Enhance your wax seal impressions
For an even more decorative finish, the raised details of your wax seal can be highlighted using Bortoletti wax cream, available in pots of gold or silver. This is a simple way to bring out initials, symbols, and engraved details, adding extra contrast and a more luxurious finish to your completed seal.
Product dimensions and compatibility
The interchangeable seal plate measures 22 mm in diameter, the standard size used across most of the Bortoletti sealing range. This makes the set compatible with other Bortoletti initials and symbol stamps, allowing you to expand your collection over time while continuing to use the same elegant wooden handle.
Bortoletti Italian craftsmanship
Bortoletti is known for Italian-made writing accessories, sealing tools, and heritage-inspired desk accessories that combine artisan tradition with practical elegance. The Todaro set reflects this approach through its natural wood elements, hand-finished bronze details, and thoughtful presentation. It is a fine example of traditional materials shaped into a writing set that feels both useful and gift-worthy.

Bortoletti Fonderia Artistica, was founded in 1980, in Venice, by four brothers and their father's passion for sculpture and bronze. Many years of experience has led to a leap in quality that has affected the entire creative process and has seen the emergence of fantastic new products. Their creations are an opportunity for the public to appreciate the relevance of material, which has captivated man for many years. Ideal for gifts but at the same time objects of distinction for the refined collector. All of Bortoletti's creations are made by jewelers and projects are small masterpieces of design. The creative process is completely handmade.
Bortoletti was founded in 1980 by four brothers driven by the passion passed on by their father for bronze casting and sculpture.
It was born in Venice, and it was here that a story of love and passion began that has been handed down from father to son in respect for tradition and the need to preserve what is wonderful about culture.
Bortoletti Fonderia Artistica design and create exclusive handmade objects in the tradition of Venetian craftsmanship, from the pencils of their designers and their artistic creativity come the designs of wonderful products and it is always a lifeblood of the whole creative process.
The passion and care they devote to their products are a source of pride and satisfaction for everyone. All creations are unique pieces, handmade and produced elusively in Bortoletti's workshop. By integrating with modern habits, they restore to you the pleasure of giving that has belonged to us all for millennia. The design of Bortoletti's products is so pleasing to the eye because it speaks of the past in the language of the present.
If you have a piece of Bortoletti - you have a part of Venice in your hands.
Hi Trina,
Thank you for asking. Bortoletti recommends using 90% pure alcohol or denatured alcohol (Methylated spirits) for a stable, odourless flame that does not burn or discolour the wax.
The two best, least expensive fuels for the alcohol lamps are denatured ethanol (ethyl alcohol; grain alcohol), and methanol (methyl alcohol; wood alcohol; methylated spirit); both can be cheaply obtained at hardware stores or home-improvement centers.
What is the alternative to denatured alcohol for alcohol lamp?
Try using >99% isopropyl alcohol. It's the closest in structure and physical properties. Denatured alcohol is mostly ethanol with methanol mixed in so it can be sold for non-food use.
Please note that Calligraphy Arts does not sell this as it requires specialist posting, but it is freely available at many hardware and cosmetic accessory stores.
I hope that helps,
Jane
Hello Irene,
Thanks for asking. To seal a lid on a jar, you need to heat the end of the sealing wax with something like a kitchen lighter and carefully drip the melted wax over the area you want to seal. Then, while the wax is still warm, you can press your stamp.
Here is a video showing one method I found on YouTube:
